April Employee Spotlight: Kevin Thompson

Kevin Thompson originally started in the shipping department then 3 years later he migrated to the paint line and 17.5 years later works on the paint line as a '“floater”.

What attracted you to MECO?

I had worked temporary jobs for over 6 years and started to apply for permanent full-time jobs so I would have funds for my retirement. I got the job offer from MECO when I was in an interview for Hertz and I took the job.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Every day is different, especially since I’m a floater.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

After the first hour, I know if it’s going to be a good day or a bad day.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

All the different personalities.

What is one thing that stands out in your mind that you have learned since working at MECO?

I have learned how to condition myself with regards to how to treat other people.

What advice would you give to someone new to MECO?

If you aren’t willing to give 100%, do not expect anything from MECO in return. For the younger employees, “don’t get complacent”.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a “tinkerer”. I enjoy tinkering with bikes, electric toys, etc. I enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together. My Dad was a welder and enjoyed tinkering as well.

What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?

I have a sense of humor.

Do you have a hidden talent or hobby?

I’m an artist and enjoy sketching.

What is your favorite food?

Pizza.

What is your favorite restaurant?

Sonic.

If you could travel to any state in the U.S., or any country, which state or country would that be?

State – Seattle, WA; Country – Bahamas.
